Johannes elebaut

About the ARTIST

Johannes is an interdisciplinary artist based in Ghent, Belgium. He has a background in interior and graphic design and next to his own studio, he is also a teacher at LUCA School of Arts in Ghent.

His work entails collages, built up by collecting random fragments of old books, envelopes , archives or files that he sorts by colour, age, patina or shape. Once the collage have reached their final form, he photographs those collages in detail and prints them out in large format. The idea is to look of new compositions within the original collage.

An other part of his work are his photographs, in which he strives to make images that have a strong graphic quality. The search for compositions, juxtapositions and architectural spatial qualities is the main objective. He is obsessed with light and how images can change when you use them in sequences.

His background in interior design and graphic design gave him the language he needed to be able to use these approaches.
